Match Engine changes As mentioned last Monday, the Match Engine changes will be implemented after Sunday 25 September's update ready for matches starting Monday the 26th. What can we expect to see?
1. There will be a much larger range of available formations including the option of optimising sweepers, holding and deep lying midfielders, plus more variations on the 'Christmas Tree' formation.
2. Players can now find themselves sent off for two bookable offences in a match. This will result in them being suspended for one match.
3. Teams with only ten men (either because of a sending off or an injury after three substitutes have been used) may well find that their performance is adversely affected. Managers will not be informed precisely how this will work: it is for them to observe and assimilate information in order to learn from experience.
4.Team discipline and aggression in matches could have an impact on the number of cards issued by referees. Managers will have to find the right balance for their teams.
5. Players playing out of position (e.g. a goalkeeper playing outfield or an outfield player being put in goal) will find their performance suffering. This also applies to defenders playing up front and forward playing in defence, etc., etc. This reduction in effectiveness will be noticeable in the game's Match Preview. Please note, this will not always apply to players playing in their Positions of Defence, Midfield or Attack, but equally nor does this mean that the concept of 'Best Position' within their Position is redundant. The Match Preview should be seen as a guide but it doesn't factor in everything: a manager's judgement and experience also come in to play such that Best Positions do mean something, as do other factors not reflected in the Match Preview.
Ron has indicated that there will be further Match Engine enhancements in the areas of Tactics (including Conditional Tactics changes) and Substitutions. These are still being worked on and, as usual, will require testing. The likely timescale for these to be introduced live is between 4 - 6 weeks, but complexity of coding and other factors may mean that it takes a little longer. |
