89-rated players
It occurred to me the other day that I have very rarely seen a player rated 89, and a quick look through a few clubs seems to suggest the ones that are there are either still training with 7501 coaches or have been maxed out by 6501 coaches, but could do better. I haven't found a player with, say, 80s fixed attributes that's reached 89, or 88 or 87 for that matter.

In fact, thinking about my experience, my 80s FA players end up 79-81 while my 90s ones are 86-88 (I've seen a couple of 89s elsewhere). So, is an 82-85 rated player just not a thing? Do they exist but the 7501 clubs just sell before fully training them and the rest of us can't help them achieve their potential?

Anyone had/have any players that contradict my theory?

I have a single 89-rated player with my 6501 coaches. I think you have to get pretty lucky to find one. They're a bit like 94-rated players for the best teams in the game, very hard to find consistently.

That being said, I don't think there's a huge amount of difference between a 88-rated and 89-rated player. I'd rather take a 88-rated player in form 10 than a 89-rated player in form 4, put it that way.

I'm just curious about the apparent gap in players' potentials.

What I mean is - are they players that, with 7501-rated coaches, reach 87-89 but not 90+. Or, are there players that, with 6501-rated coaches, reach 83-85.

And for bonus points - what might my 80-81-rated players reach with 7501 coaches? Of course I will find this out in a couple of seasons

From taking a brief look at our own division and Qingnianlu City, it looks like 80s FA players can reach about 83 or 84 with top level coaches.

There are several 89-rated players at various top-20 clubs but it looks like most of them still have some room for improvement

It looks to me like the "dead spots" for ratings are 82 and 89. 80s players will reach 79-81 with 6501 coaches and 83-85 with 7501 coaches. 90s players will reach 86-88 with 6501 coaches and 90-94 with 7501 coaches. There will, of course, be exceptions.


Remind yourself that overconfidence is a slow and insidious killer... (bonus points if you get the reference)

There's an answer then, which suggests to me the potential gap does exist. There aren't 80s FA players who can be trained to 85-89, even by the best coaches in the game (whether 8501 coaches could do even more is another story). Just interesting that there's doesn't seem to be that variety of better and worse players within a FA band.

So my theory remains unchallenged

I'm an 89 rated player, however I am 35 so I have started to decline a little, I was a 97 rated player.
