Overall rating of Staff position
Yesterday, I found a member of staff with more highly-rated important attributes for his role than a current member of my staff in that job. (Admittedly, his total rating was actually lower but I do understand why that was.) Anyway, I offered a contract to join my staff team intending to replace a current one.

He agreed terms and joined. But, with the extra member of staff in that role, (before sacking anyone), my overall rating for that staff position dropped by 1 at the last update.

How strange - I assume the overall summary for that position is pulling through all the maximum characteristics as it should do?

I can't offer any explanation, and sorry for the hijack but you've sort of addressed a point I've been thinking about recently. Do people care about an additional point or two in individual characteristics? Would you hire an extra coach just because he was one or two points higher in (say) outfield coaching than what you already had?

The updated ratings were showing, and remember I hadn't terminated anyone's contract before that, so stats were actually higher. I guess that because the new guy's overall rating was slightly lower than current staff, that it may also get included in the final overall rating calculation of all coaches.
The other possibility is that there's a display error and the previous rating was incorrectly showing as too high and now it's reset. I have noticed before what looked like it might be a display error after changing a staff member's role, but just a guess as I don't know for sure how it works.

I only searched and hired this coach to replace an older one because when you're stuck in a x500 rating band for a long time, occasionally staff want to retire. I thought I was lucky that I found one who looked a tiny bit better, but maybe it wasn't so good after all. Hopefully there's no negative impact.
