A long time ago, in the sleepy town of Ravenswood Bluff, during a hellish thunderstorm, on the stroke of midnight... you hear a scream. Rushing to the Town Square to investigate, you find your beloved Storyteller [yours truly] has been murdered... impaled on the hour hand of the clocktower, blood dripping onto the cobblestones below. You assume that this is the work of a Demon, and you are correct - a Demon that kills by night and takes on human form by day.
You have received your character tokens by private message, you are either on the Good team, or the Evil team as indicated in the message. The aim of the game if you are good is to find and execute the Demon. If the Demon dies, good wins. The aim of the game if you are evil is to destroy the town. If just two players are left alive (and the Demon hasn't been killed), evil wins.
The game is split into two phases, a day phase and a night phase. During the day, you talk. You will each have a secret identity, a character from the list. Generally the good players will share whatever they know and attempt to find out who is who. Most good players will be telling the truth, but some have an incentive to lie. If you are evil, you should definitely be lying! It's best to pick a good character to pretend to be, spreading as much false information as possible.
During the night, everybody goes to sleep. The Storyteller will wake some players so that they can use their ability or gain information.
Most of you will die. Get used to that idea, it is a good thing! In Ravenswood Bluff, death is not the end. Some players may even want to die as they gain information when they do. If you are dead, you still participate in the game. You may still talk, and you still win or lose when your team wins or loses.
There is a lot of information in this game. However, some of it might be wrong. If you are drunk, or poisoned, you have no ability, but the storyteller will pretend that you do. The storyteller is allowed to lie to you - any information you get may be incorrect, but you will not know if you are drunk or poisoned.
Reminder of the 5 main rules:
1 - You may say whatever you want at any time.
2 - Ask me any questions you need to.
3 - Play nice.
4 - No copyrighting!
5 - No editing or deleting posts.
Away you go, the game has begun!
Update: Because Chyper won't be joining until later, he'll be a traveller. That means he doesn't count towards the setup numbers so your baseline character type count is 5 Townsfolk, 2 Outsiders, 1 Minion and 1 Demon.
|
| Oh and remember, you can have private conversations (aka whispers) but there's a protocol to follow. They must be agreed publicly before you send any private messages and ALL private conversations must be copied to the storyteller.
Request a whisper with someone by posting in the whispers thread: "/Whisper request [player name]"
That player must respond in the whispers thread with: /Whisper accepted [playername] before any private messages can be sent. If they do not accept then you can't message them.
You can only be in private whisper with one player at a time so to end one post in the whispers thread: "/Whisper ended [player name]"
If there are any breaches of this protocol I will we respond heavily. This is a crucial part of the game working on a forum instead of face to face.

| Hi all... where to begin, and how to take in all the info... thanks TG, you've added some crazy and great roles and hopefully we can understand and discover things we don't already know...!
Knowing what I know, and being a Good Towns person.. I'd be keen to know what seats 3 & 7 roles you have been given..
Also, do the seat numbers have any relevance..?

No, they're just how I allocated players to positions in the circle. You're best to refer to people with usernames instead of seat numbers.

| Hello everyone!
And thanks TG for setting this up. Great effort, it looks very promising.
I never played the game in reality, so I guess I don't understand everything yet, and I'll start with a question: will there be a separate whisper thread or do we request whispers here?
Can't wait to test the waters here and there

Yes, there's a separate thread, now created

| Good evening everyone,
I played the Mafia/Town/Independent games ran by either TG2 or JamesImp (very surprised James didn't throw his hat in the ring on this one) and anyone who hasn't had the pleasure of playing one of TG2's games, he is a terrific mentor and also incredibly devious.
Seriously though, thank you TG2 for not only setting this up, but for also giving me some welcome distraction during some decent down time this month. I hope it goes smoothly for you and everyone.
I assume smilies are allowed!

| A lot of information to take in here!
Thanks for setting up TG

I'm a bit overwhelmed and it hasn't even properly started. Time to open a good ol' notepad file, I think
|
| Don't worry about trying to understand and remember every little thing. It'll all become clear as you play. Some of the info I shared is for reference later too | |
|
| It has been a very long time since I played a mafia game and I have never played one with this sort of ruleset. In my previous experience, when you were dead you are out of the game and unable to post. It's going to be a bit weird to be allowed to post when dead or to converse with the dead.
My initial thoughts are that there are a lot of reasons to want to whisper to someone else, and one of the primary ones would be for the demon and his minion to make plans and exchange information. I'm going to be keeping a close eye on who whispers to who, that's for sure.
My second thoughts are that I have experienced (a long time ago) how cunning TG can be with his game setups to make it so that the "information" we gather at night is often misleading. I would not be at all surprised if there was both a drunk and a poisoner. Be careful of any information you receive. That being said, there's a maximum of one of each role, right? So only one drunk and one poisoner maximum. On this first night, a maximum of 2 people can have been given incorrect information out of 7 townsfolk. Tomorrow 2 people could be poisoned, as poison last for 2 nights, so there's a higher chance of being given misleading information.
Of course, there is only a single minion, so there may be no poisoner at all and we will never know until the game is over!
Unless there's a scarlet woman, we only need to be right once, and we've got 2-3 shots at it before the numbers game starts favouring the evil team. Also as the numbers reduce the odds of hitting the demon increase. We can also still share information after we are dead (although if we kill the minion their alignment isn't revealed, so they can still spread misinformation from beyond the grave, something we must be aware of). So be careful about giving out your information too early if you have a powerful role and making yourself an easy target. We can start claiming roles later in the game when it comes to the crunch time and then look back to ensure that our previous posts are consistent with this role. If we can catch someone in a lie designed to cover themselves based on a role they have claimed, that's one of the best ways to catch an evil team member.
There are roles that can claim earlier in the game more safely, though. Has anyone got any information that they can safely share right now?

| Wow! A lot of stuff to take in hgere!
General question: Are whisper requests/acceptances thatr are not in bold still valid?

| OOps, sorry. Double post. (And I'm not allowed to delete either) | |
|
| Whisper requests don't need to be bold. They're the only things in that thread so it's not necessary. I only bolded them in the instructions etc so the command stood out. | |

I'm with you on all that. This game will mess with your head and then tie you in knots trying to understand who did what to who, all the time fearing whether the info you obtain either from the forum or your whispers or your role is credible or not.
Let's start with the rules and game explanation thread (post 2).
We have 10 players in circle, but start with only 9.
Does that mean chyperhondriac will be included as a traveller perhaps? It could be crucial to determining how TG2 has set the game up.
With 10 players, we know from Page 2, that there will be ...
1 Demon
2 Minions
7 Townsfolk
0 Outsiders
However, chyperhondriac... if assigned as a traveller, would he count in the numbers or not?
Personally, since we are in a circle of 10 players with one inactive, we should assume 10 player setup until we can positively rule it out.
Please feel free to correct me if I have misinterpreted anything wrongly here, but we have to start somewhere...

Sorry BB, that's not meant to be part of the puzzle to solve it should be known info at the start. I've updated the first post to make clear it's 9 players + 1 Traveller to join later.
|
| Quote: Originally posted by TopGun2 I'm going to start the game tomorrow and will make chyperhondriac into a Traveller character joining the game on the 21st. I think that's the best way to manage everyone's availability. If I wait too much longer then we'll run into a period where I won't be available.
TG posted this yesterday o answer your question BB

| Excited to get started. Head is spinning reading all the roles and permutations! | |
