| If you can find older youths with high ratings, that's great, there are a few mentioned in this thread but they're pretty rare.
The downside of older youths is that spending a shorter time in the academy may reduce their chance of promoting, occasionally youths reject and leave you.
Younger youths have more time to improve, are more likely to promote, and usually easier to find, so I think they're usually what most managers put in the academy. But choose them carefully.

Probably best not to pick an argument with that youth, given that balance!

| When I get my scouting results back I tend to go through them in descending rating order, so this evening I checked the 40s, then the 30s, finding garbage just like the last 1,839 or so.
Then I spotted him hiding at the bottom of the list - a beautiful new 51-rated perfectly balanced 14 year old.
Sometimes patience does pay off
|
| One of my perfectly balanced youths hadn't improved for several weeks, and I only knew his improvement day because he'd increased by 1 solitary point since I signed him just over a season ago. Today he improved by 11 points at once.
Meanwhile the youth that I recruited aged 14 (rated 42) turned 17 recently (and only improved to 45). He's now shot up to 65 in his last 4 updates (although he's running out of time before he turns 18 ).
Patience definitely pays off...

Sometimes patience does pay off I go the other way round, starting quickly with those 5-rated youths, and with the tension rising with the higher rated ones.

You get youths rated higher than 5?

I took in a 11 yr old rated 5,5,5, a season and half later he is rated 7,7,7, lets hope patience pays off with him, lots of it i think.

| Is there any better feeling than seeing a youth player hit (100) one of the best parts about this game for sure. Fingers crossed for this evening. | |

| I?ve had Shubham Bote in my academy since he was 13, if I remember correctly he was 38/38/38 then. He is a both footed creative midfielder and he has just got to 92/92/92 at 16. | |

Nice. Fingers crossed he improves a bit more...

| Holy moly.
Got my 6 scouts back today from looking for 13 or 14 year old midfielders. Here's what they found:
A 14 year old rated 86, almost perfectly balanced. Straight into the academy.
A 14 year old rated 77, Physical 74 Mental 76 Technical 82, barely rejected because I doubt the physical and mental will go above 90, which is my minimum requirement to take on a youth now.
Three 13 year old youths rated in the 50s, all rejected for being slightly too unbalanced.
And the usual sub-30 rating rabble.
I've never had a set of scout reports have so many pre-trained youths in them before!
|
| And my youth Von who turns 18 on Saturday just hit 100. Hot crossed on his promotion too... | |
|
| I've had a perfectly balanced improving youth for 2 seasons until last night when one of his attributes fell out of sync with the other two, he is 56, 56, 55. | |
|
| Just hit promote on a 17yo youth with maxed attributes.
My first team never had the pleasure of one of these, so we'll see what he looks like if he promotes!

Well, he accepted, and he is all 90+, but what's with these 100-rated youths coming up with 90 or 91 lowest FA when a lot of the lower-academy-rated players come out with 93 or even 94?

Mine accepted as well with similar attributes. The most my other team's coaches ever got out of an all 90s player is 93 rating, but there have been some 94 rated. That's about the limit of everything I have seen.
I seem to remember Ron saying that the youth rating when promoting to the first team, would closely resemble each other and where 90-95 is concerned, all mine that promoted with these numbers certainly did get close, but since none have ever achieved 100 rated in first team, presumably it will just be to the higher end of the best players, so 93 or 94 rated.
